Deweyville Lady Pirates capture YMBL title

BEAUMONT — The Deweyville Lady Pirates won the small school division of the YMBL tournament on Saturday located at Ozen High School.
They defeated Kountze 25-16, 25-14 to advance to the semifinal game. Kennidee Willis led the way with 19 kills and 6 digs. Mallory Hand added 5 kills and 4 blocks. Shaylin Dupuy dished out 26 assists and 5 digs. Bre Sims had 16 digs and an ace while Gabby Dupuy dug up 14 balls and added 2 aces.
In the semifinal game Deweyville beat Buna 25-19, 25-18. Shaylin Dupuy distributed 23 assists, 7 digs, and 4 aces. Gabby Dupuy led the defense with a team high 19 digs and 14 serve receives, while adding 2 aces and an assist. Kennidee Willis slammed down 17 kills,1 ace, and added 8 digs. Mallory Hand had 3 kills and 2 aces, while Brooke Smith added 4 kills.
Deweyville defeated Evadale in the finals by a score of 25-20, 25-15. Gabby Dupuy had 23 digs and 1 ace. Kennidee Willis had 19 kills, 16 digs, and 2 aces. Shaylin Dupuy handed out 31 assists and added 11 digs and 1 ace. Freshman Haylee Ladner tallied 7 kills in 11 attempts.
Tournament MVP went to Kennidee Willis. Joining her on the all-tournament team was setter Shaylin Dupuy, Libero Gabby Dupuy, and Defensive Specialist Bre Sims.
The wins improve the Lady Pirates record to 23-2 (1-0 in district) on the year.
