The Texas High School Coaches Association Top 10 poll by region and division was recently released in conjunction with TheAthleticsDepartment.com.
This is not a state poll, but a poll ranking teams in their respective regions.
This is the second season the THSCA and TheAthleticsDepartment.com have worked together to produce regional football polls voted on by the coaches. There are 32 weekly polls ranking the Top 10 football teams in the four regions of the UIL’s Class 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A.
The polls are voted on by a representative from each district. Each voter votes on his own region and submits a Top 10 with a first-place vote worth 10 points, second place 9, and so on down to one point for 10th.
In Class 4A Region III Division I, District 10-4A was represented well. Defending district champion Jasper (9-4) was ranked No. 5. Huffman (9-2) chimed in at No. 6 while the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears (5-6) were ranked No. 10. Navasota was tabbed No. 1 with El Campo at No. 2 and Carthage at No. 3.
Ion Class 4A Region III Division II, District 9-4A had three teams represented, including the West Orange-Stark Mustangs (13-3), who were state runnerups last season, ranked No. 1. Hardin-Jefferson (11-2) was tabbed No. 6 and Orangefield (7-5) was at No. 7. La Grange, who WO-S defeated in the Region III finals last year, was ranked No. 2 while La Marque was No. 3.
In Class 3A Division I, Kirbyville (11-2) was No. 2 and East Chambers (11-2) was No. 8. Cameron Yoe (12-4) was tabbed No. 1.
In Class 3A Division II, Newton (12-4) was ranked No. 1 followed by Corrigan-Camden (10-2) and Crockett (7-6).
West Sabine (8-3) was No. 10 in Class 2A Division I with Alto (11-1) coming in at No. 1.
No teams from District 22-5A received any points for Class 5A Region III. Richmond Foster, a WO-S non-district opponent, is ranked No. 6.
The poll results will be released to the media via email and posted on theAthleticsDepartment.com every Monday at 3 P.M. during the season.
