At approximately 9:30a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash at the intersection of MacArthur Drive and 16th Street in Orange, Texas. The crash involved four vehicles, including an Orange Police Department’s (OPD) patrol unit.
The preliminary DPS crash investigation indicates that a 2018 Chevrolet passenger vehicle, a 2017 Hyundai passenger vehicle and a 2013 Toyota Prius were stopped at a red light at the intersection of MacArthur Drive and 16th Street. All three (3) vehicles were stopped facing eastbound. A 2020 Chevrolet patrol unit was traveling eastbound on MacArthur Drive. For an unknown reason, the driver of the patrol car failed to control his speed and rear-ended the Chevrolet passenger vehicle. The impact caused the Chevrolet passenger vehicle to rear-end the 2017 Hyundai and strike the 2013 Toyota Prius.
The driver of the Chevrolet passenger vehicle was identified as 26-year-old Jeremy Arellano of Mission, Texas.
The driver of the Hyundai passenger vehicle was identified as 25-year-old Kala Huffman of Bridge City, Texas.
The driver of the Toyota was identified as 58-year-old Terry Guin of Orange, Texas.
The driver of the 2020 Chevrolet patrol car was identified as Marcus Bernard.
All drivers were checked by medical personnel at the scene, but refused to be transported to a hospital.
This remains an ongoing investigation as Troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this crash. There are no additional details available at this time.
