UPDATE: Newton County Sheriff, Billy Rowles reports that Larry Dewane Land Jr. has been arrested and is now in custody of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. Larry Land escaped custody earlier today and led officers on a chase for several hours.

He was arrested in the same area that he escaped. He was still wearing his handcuffs.

 

PRESS RELEASE — The Newton County Sheriffs Office is conducting a manhunt in the Liberty Community area of Newton County.

The suspect, Larry Dewane Land Jr. 6ft 160lbs B/M wearing dark hoodie and black sweatpants, escaped custody while arrested on multiple felony warrants.

Vernon Parish brought their tracking dog to the area and is assisting with the search.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that it is a felony to harbor a fugitive.
