PINEHURST — Spring cleaning is a long tradition of a thorough cleaning of a house or room, typically undertaken in spring. The City of Pinehurst is once again continuing with the practice and offering residents an opportunity to dispose of those items which need to be tossed.
Pinehurst Spring Clean up will be from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 14 at the 2600 block of MacArthur Drive, in the parking lot of the old Sears building.
“We have had a great turn out in past years,” John Toney, Pinehurst Public Works Director, said. “Even today we are picking up storm debris, what is left, they can bring to us.”
City employees will be on hand to unload large items such as refrigerators, washing machines, furniture and tree limbs and brush.
The event also allows people to get rid of large items they may normally have to pay.
The city, in the past, usually collects two – three dumpsters worth of items during the annual collection.
The City will not accept hazardous materials such as batteries, pesticides, herbicides, paint or tires.
Collections is for residents of Pinehurst only.
“The city does this to help the citizens,” Toney said. “Because in Pinehurst we are one big family. We know people by names here.”
West Orange will also hold a Spring Clean up day from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21 behind the West Orange Fire Station. This is for residents of West Orange only. Proof of residency and photo identification will be required at the drop site. No hazardous materials or normal household waste will be accepted. Freon must be drained of said Freon and tagged by individual certified to do such work. The city will be unable to make arrangements for any ‘special pickups.’
