LITTLE CYPRESS — Receiving a superb performance by Renna Toomey on the mound and at the plate, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears roared past the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs 15-0 in four innings in District 22-4A softball action at Lady Bear Field Tuesday night.
Toomey tossed all four innings for the Lady Bears (17-1, 2-0), allowing just one hit while fanning nine Lady Mustangs.
Toomey was 2-for-3 at the plate with a two-run homer and a two-run double to spark a 11-hit attack.
The Lady Bears struck for four runs off WO-S (0-2 in district) starter Mariah Mims in the bottom of the first inning.
Ally White reached on an error. Olivia Leavings followed with a single to left. With one out, Bailey Frenzel ripped a RBI single up the middle to plate courtesy runner Emily Landry.
Brianna Frenzel made it 3-0 when she roped a two-run single to left. Megan Peveto eventually scored the fourth run of the frame when she darted home on a passed ball.
LC-M tacked on two runs in the bottom of the second. White had a leadoff single up the middle and Toomey took a Mims’ offering and ripped a two-run home run over the leftfield fence.
The Lady Bears erupted for six runs on three hits in the bottom half of the third.
Jonee Villanueva drew a leadoff walk. JoAnna Henry belted a double to left and Morgan Weaver slapped a two-run single to center to make it 8-0.
Sidnee Lewis replaced Mims on the WO-S hill at that point with no outs. Mims went two innings, allowing seven hits while striking out two and walking three.
Weaver eventually scored on a wild pitch and Toomey slapped a two-run double to left and eventually scored on a passed ball to make it 12-0.
LC-M tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to end it, sparked by a White two-run double. It scored Landry, who had a leadoff single past first, along with Alicia Merritt, who had drawn a walk.
Gabby Mims had the Lady Mustangs’ lone hit of the night as she ripped a Toomey offering to deep center for a double.
The two squads will battle again for the second time this week as the Lady Bears will head to WO-S Friday to battle the Lady Mustangs.
