UPDATE: Teen detained for terroristic threat

UPDATE: Orange County Judge Troy Johnson ordered the juvenile to be further detained. He will be transported back to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention facility pending the filing of the case by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
We strongly recommend that parents speak to their children about the seriousness of making threats of any nature and under any circumstances. If a threat is made and officials have reason to believe the threat is intentional, law enforcement action will be taken.

PRESS RELEASE: The Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call last night in reference to a social media post by a Little Cypress High School student.
The post (which was deleted shortly after it was posted) indicated a “threat of violence” and was taken very seriously by the Sheriff’s Office. Detectives responded to the teen’s residence and spoke with him and his parents.
A directive to apprehend was issued by an Orange County judge and the teen, a 16 year old white male, was transported to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention facility.
He will be transported back to Orange County this morning for a detention hearing.
A terroristic threat is classified as a class A or B misdemeanor. A person commits a terroristic threat if a threat to commit violence is communicated with the intent to: (any of the following)
Cause reaction by officials organized to deal w/emergencies,
Place any person in fear of imminent serious bodily injury,
Prevent or interrupt the occupation/use of a building,
Cause impairment/interruption of public services,
Place the public/group in fear of serious bodily injury, OR
Influence the conduct /activities of any part of the government.
