UPDATE: Fatal wreck on Hwy. 62 sends several to hospital

On September 29, 2017, at approximately 10:00p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a two vehicle crash on SH 62 in Orange County.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 2014 Ford Focus was traveling northbound on SH 62. A 2017 Ford Explorer was traveling southbound on SH 62. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Ford Focus crossed the center dividing line and struck the Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Ford Focus, Kinta Kay Berlinger, 43, of Orange, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Hershel Stagner. The passenger of the Ford Focus, April Peveto, 36, of Newton, Texas, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, 54-year-old Joey Hunt of Bridge City was transported to Hermann Memorial hospital in Houston with serious injuries. One of the two passengers in the Ford Explorer, 52-year-old Karen Saucier of Orange, was transported to Southeast Texas Medical Center with serious injuries. The other passenger was not injured.
This remains an ongoing investigation as Troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this fatal crash.
