BEAUMONT – Speaker Joe Straus has appointed Representative Dade Phelan to the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT) Advisory Committee. The purpose of the committee is to review the overall operation, function and structure of the state water fund. As part of its review the committee is to submit recommendations to the Texas Water Development Board regarding the use of money in fund, the prioritization of projects submitted for assistance, the types of projects that qualify for conservation and other goals described in House Bill 4 from the 83rd Legislature. The overall goal of the SWIFT is to provide $27 billion in state water plan projects over the next 50 years.
“I want to thank Speaker Straus for appointing me to serve on the SWIFT Advisory Committee,” Representative Phelan said. “After nine years of serving on a local river authority board, I understand the challenges of water planning, development and conservation. I look forward to working with the committee and the Texas Water Development Board to develop creative solutions and new technologies for a rapidly growing Texas.”
