ORANGE —  Lamar State College Orange took the trophy back last week during the 26th Annual Spelling Bee.

The event is a major fundraiser for the Greater Orange Area Literacy Services.

GOALS is a non-profit tax-exempt adult literacy program with three main areas. We prepare students to earn a GED, teach reading and writing to those reading below a sixth-grade level, and teach English to those whose primary language is different.

“Our society is dependent upon informed citizens, and the ability to read is necessary to be informed, so we think there is a vital need to reach those who are undereducated, and help them live a better life through our program. We provide all materials for free,” according to a statement from GOALS.
