Lamar University and Lamar State College Orange announced a partnership to bring leadership courses directly to the LSCO campus.
The collaboration seeks to make advanced education more accessible to LSCO students and the surrounding community. Students will be able to continue their education with Lamar University while benefiting from courses available in Orange. This pathway will count and apply courses taken at LSCO towards LU bachelor’s degree in leadership.
“This is a great day for the Orange community and I’m excited to be part of this incredible opportunity,” LSCO President Dr. Tom Johnson said. “It’s a big step in the right direction, giving our students a chance to earn a bachelor’s degree right here in Orange County from a prestigious institution like Lamar University.”
The event held to commemorate this occasion was held in the new academic building that opened last year. Both presidents were present to celebrate along with incoming LSCO President Wendy Elmore.
“This initiative is a significant step in building success for Southeast Texas,” Lamar University President Jaime Taylor said. “By preparing future leaders with leadership courses, we’re not just
educating students, we’re fostering a stronger, more resilient community.”
The initiative is pending approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The initiative is expected to pass soon. Once the program begins, students will be able to receive four-year degrees without leaving Orange.
