VIDOR — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears defeated the Vidor Lady Pirates 4-1 on Friday night to move to 2-0 in District 18-4A action thanks to strong pitching and some timely offensive firepower.

LC-M’s Ella Stephenson tossed a no hitter for the victory, as she tallied sixstrikeouts and three walks and one batter hit by a pitch. The Lady Pirates did manage a bunt but an error allowed the batter to advance all the way to second base.

Things were looking good for Vidor at the start as pitcher Sophia Aguirre and the Lady Pirates defense sent the first three LC-M batters back to the dugout. Vidor jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Stephenson walked Eryn Barazza to start the inning and a wild throw let Barazza advance to second base. A few batters later Stephenson hit Aguirre with a pitch to put runners on first and third bases. Barazza would score moments later following a bad infield throw by LC-M.

LC-M finally got its offense going in the top of the third as Eden Frenzel hit a single and Kendall Jones put down a bunt for a hit. Two batters later Tessa Erickson smacked a double to score Frenzel. Keylie Washburn then had a sacrifice fly on the following at bat to push Jones across the plate to put LC-M ahead, 2-1, midway through the third inning.

Jones hit a double to start off the top of the fifth inning, which was followed by a double from Lexis Moss to score Jones giving LC-M a 3-1 lead. Vidor would switch pitchers this inning as Aguirre hit a third LC-M batter with a pitch. McKenzie Grass came in as relief for the remainder of the game for Vidor.

LC-M added another run in the top of the sixth inning as Jones advanced to first on a bunt and a throw to first went over the first baseman’s head sending Frenzel home.

The Lady Bears return home on Tuesday, March 11, to face the Lumberton Lady

Raiders. Vidor will travel to West Orange-Stark to face the Lady Mustangs on Tuesday night.
