The Orange City Council voted to approve a resolution to advance the construction of a new Affordable housing complex for seniors at their last city council meeting.

Kelvin Knauf, Director of Planning and Community Development, clarified the project to city council explaining that this was not a Section 8 housing development. The development is planned to be at the west side of 27th Street, north of Eddleman Road.

The plans are for 62 apartments for low-income seniors who earn less than $37,000 with rents as low as $700 a month based on the number of bedrooms.

Alice Woods with Trinity Housing Development made a presentation in front of city council clarifying the next step of applying for a housing tax credit by the end of February. The housing tax credit is often very competitive and does not guarantee the tax credit for development companies that apply.

“We selected this location, specifically because we think it’s an excellent place for active seniors to live,” said Woods. “It’s close to grocery stores, pharmacies, medical clinics and parks. If you have been by there recently you see that it’s a site that is in need of some love.”

If the tax is given to this development construction is expected to begin in 2026.
