Bridge City Superintendent Mike Kelly has been named Region 5 Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards.

Now, Kelly advances to the next phase of competition and is eligible for selection as a state-level finalist.

A TASB committee will interview the 20 regional winners and narrow the selection down to five candidates. Following another round of interviews, the TASB State Superintendent of the Year will be announced at txEDCON in San Antonio this September.

Regional winners were nominated by their school boards before being selected by a committee at their regional education center.

Kelly was named BCISD in April 2021. Since then, he has helped oversee projects such as renovations to Larry Ward Stadium, as well as the approval of a new middle school and CTE building for the district. The latter two projects broke ground last year and are currently ongoing.
