What is in a name?

We are writing today from 1Timothy 1:15 “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…” Matt. 1:21 “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
These passages cooperate with each other in regard to exactly why Jesus was born. He was sent of God (1Jn. 4:9) to save.
Oh, John Chapter 5 tells us that He will also be the judge, but until judgment day, He is the Savior of all who will come to Him and call out to Him to forgive them of their sins and save them condemnation (hell).
Note the instruction of God through Gabriel, the Angel. “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus…”
Why did you name your child the way you did? Names of days gone by were names like William, John, Frank, etc.
Today the more creative you can be the better.
I won’t even begin to say what some are. From my look back in time, many names given to children today are bazaar.
I was named after my two grandfathers. I like my first name, but not my middle name. I always use the initial, “L.”
I am, though, proud to be named after two great men in my life, now with the Lord.
The name of Jesus, though, was unique and not to be treated lightly as to why God told Mary to call Him, Jesus.
In that day, it was common to name sons after someone in the family. His Father being God the Father, tells us what the name of God is. My God’s name is Jesus.
John 1:1,14 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Note the reason for His name and the impact of that name…”for He will save His people from their sins.”
Acts 4:12 explains…”Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Jn.1:12 “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”
We are told of a new name for those who are truly born again. We who have been born again have the name of Jesus upon us.
We believed on Jesus, thus acknowledging by faith that to call upon Him, His name, we are saved. We are stamped as saved for heaven and our entry is secured by having His name upon our souls.
“By whose name do you enter, Charles, James, Fred?” No. I carry the saving name of Jesus.
Romans 10:13 says, “For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Not only does the name set him apart from all children ever born, but the power of His name is the authority of heaven, receiving all into heaven willing to call upon Him, His name, to save them.
The Savior is born and has died and has risen again saving all who will call upon Him…putting His name for entry into heaven on all who will believe.
