Bicyclist hit by vehicle in serious condition

A man riding his bicycle is in critical condition after being hit by a Ford Explorer while out for a early morning ride.
West Orange Police Officer S. Carpenter responded at approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday to the 4000 block of Western Avenue, south of State Highway 87, in reference to a auto pedestrian collision.
Upon arrival on scene, first responders found a male victim laying on the side of the road severely injured after being hit by a SUV while riding his bicycle
Acadian Ambulance and West Orange Fire Department personnel assessed
the patient and transported him to the hospital in serious condition.
According to personnel on the scene, the driver struck the bicyclist as he was riding down Western Avenue.

The driver of the SUV did stop and render aid, which is required by law.
The bicycle had severe damage to it from the collision, and appeared to have flashing lights on it.
The driver of the SUV stated, that he did not see the bicyclist riding on the side of the road.

The driver of the Suv was given a citation on the scene and his vehicle had to be towed away due to the damages occurred in the collision.
West Orange Police was assisted by Orange Police Department with the crash.
