Parenting Class
Wells of Agape is holding a Parenting Class from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Life Church Orange located at 18389 Hwy. 62 in Orange. Lunch is provided. Requirement to receive a Certificate of Completion is $30 per person, cash only. One must attend from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. to receive the certificate. FREE Mayhaw Berries At The BC Chamber of Commerce
The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the mayhaw trees at the chamber are full of ripening berries. They will continue to ripen for the next few weeks. The Chamber invites the community to help themselves to the ripe berries while they last. The trees are located next to the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce at 150 W. Roundbunch Rd., Bridge City, TX. Mother’s Day at the W.H. Stark House
Family is the heart of The W.H. Stark House! Celebrate the important women in your life this Mother’s Day with free tours of this historic home, May 11 and May 12 in downtown Orange from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mothers receive a complimentary herb plant for their garden. Tours are free and begin every 20 minutes. We encourage you to reserve one of these popular tours in advance by calling 409-886-2787 ext. 3032, or emailing dwhatley@starkfoundation.org. All tours start at the Carriage House at 610 W. Main Avenue (just behind The W.H. Stark House) and parking is available in the Lutcher Theater parking lot. Stairs are an essential part of the tour. Admission is limited to individuals 6 years and older. This tour takes approximately 45 minutes.
Orange Academy of Beauty
Orange Academy of Beauty (OAB) will be accepting applications from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. May 1-June 1. We are not federally funded, at this time, however the first 30 students to enroll, will pay $250 down and make payment arrangements for the balance. OAB is located at 802 West Park Ave. in Orange. Become a Certified Texas Master Gardener
Want to be a Master Gardener? Now is your chance! The Orange County Master Gardeners Association will be starting a new class June 7, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Orange County EXPO Center, 11475 FM 1442 in Orangefield. Classes will run each Thursday at this time with the addition of some Saturday classes and/or field trips. There will be several optional out of town overnight field trips. Classes will continue thru September 13. The fee is $100 which will include your Master Gardener training handbook, supplies and speaker fees. Southeast Texas Disaster Assistance and Crisis Response Services through Region 5 Education Service Center is offering assistance with identifying needs and resources as well as referrals for available disaster assistance resources and crisis counseling for those struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. CASA informational meeting
The second Tuesday of each month, CASA holds an information meeting to answer questions on how to become a CASA representative. The meetings are at 6 p.m. at the CASA office located at 2120 Gloria Drive in Orange. To reserve a seat, call 409-886-2272.
Youth Summer Programs Offered by AgriLife Extension
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Orange County will be offering several programs for youth this summer. The registration for the programs will be online at orange.agrilife.org and you will select the tab for the program interested in. If you do not have computer access, please call the AgriLife office the day registration opens. Classes fill up quickly so do not wait to register.
Starting in June we will have our Youth Cooking Camp for ages 8-14, June 11-15th, 10 a to 2 pm. The Youth will be cooking 8 recipes a day for 3 day then will have a food challenge on the 4th day and awards on Friday. Cost is $45 per child, limited scholarships available. Cooking camp is limited to 60 youth. Registration opens online May 1st.
The 3rd Annual Michael Hoke Memorial Outdoor Awareness for Kids is Free with lots of Fun, food and nature will be held June 21st at Claiborne West Park, 9 am to 2 pm. Deadline to register is June 8th online or by calling the AgriLife office.
Registration for July classes will open online June 1st. July will start with Good Table Manners, “Please” and “Thank you” along with Etiquette, this will be a three day class held July 16th-18th, 9 am to 1 pm, Cost is $10 per child with lunch provided. Open to ages 8-18. Youth Canning Class will be held July 19th, 9 am to 2 pm for ages 8-14. Cost will be $25 per child. They will be canning strawberry jam and making homemade bread. Next class will be Sewing 101 for beginners only, July 23rd-25th, 9 am to 2 pm, cost is $20 per person, kids will bring their own lunch and drink.
The last program for the summer will be Clover Kids Camp for ages 5-8, July 31st-August 2nd, 1 pm to 4 pm cost will be $25 per person. The youth will have hands on cooking, sewing, robotics and science. If you have any questions about our summer programs, please feel free to contact the AgriLife office at 409-882-7010.

Scottish Society of Southeast Texas
The Society will meet on Thursday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the Parlor at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 1350 N. 23rd Street and Gladys Ave. A covered dish supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program. Since we have members who are Scotch/Irish, we would also like to learn more about our Irish “cousins” and their beautiful land and history. The program, A Visual and Historical Image of Ireland, will be our introduction.
We welcome anyone with an interest in history and culture of these rich and intriguing countries.

Depot Day
Depot Day, the annual fundraiser for the Friends of the Orange Depot, will be held Saturday, May 12, 12-5 p.m., on the grounds of the depot and will feature trackless train rides, a balloon specialist, face painting, photo booth, small dog contest called Dog Day Afternoon, a band, entertainment by Little Cypress Middle School singers, special Mexican Folk dancing and food booths. OC Retired Teachers meeting
The Orange County Retired Teachers Association will hold its final meeting of the 2017-2018 year on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 401 37th Street, Orange, TX. The program will consist of Installation of Officers for the 2018-2020 term, and a review of plans for the upcoming year. Then we will end the year with a covered dish luncheon. Guests are welcome.
