Orange County Commissioners Court approved a new county policy banning tobacco products in all county vehicles, buildings and equipment during the Tuesday meeting.

The new policy will go into effect on Saturday, October 1, 2016. The delay is to allow time for signs to be ordered and installed.

A ban on smoking within 25 feet of an entrance to a county building is included in the new policy.

E-cigarettes are not specifically included in the current policy as the county attorney continues further investigation on the items.

“At this time we are saying tobacco products,” County Human Resource Director Lori Ardoin said. “This is a starting point.”

The court approved the new policy unanimously.
