Shirley “Lee” Ann (Atkins) Perew

 

Shirley “Lee” Ann (Atkins) Perew, of Denton, Texas, passed away at age 88 on May 28, 2018. She was born on August 22, 1929, in Deweyville, Texas, to the late Tabitha (Fulcher) Atkins and the late Gilbert P. Atkins. After graduating from Stark High School in 1946, she attended Southwest Texas State University. Her professional career included work as a stewardess for American Airlines in the 1950s, work as an Administrative Assistant at Southern Methodist University and lastly, work with the Media Ministries department of The Salvation Army in Dallas.

Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Robert S. Perew from 1955 – 1963.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Gene and her sisters, Jeanette, Maurine, and Selwyn. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Joy Perew and Ann Howington; her grandchildren, Daniel Howington, Abraham Howington, Anna Djangirov, and Isabel Howington; and her great-grandchildren, Violet and Fritz.

“Lee” loved writing, painting and recently, teaching seniors basic computer skills. But by far, Her favorite thing was visiting with people one-on-one; she gathered many friends this way across generations and maintained those friendships throughout her life.

Donations in Lee’s name to The Salvation Army are welcome and appreciated.

Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial service on Friday, June 8, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Good Samaritan Society – Denton Village Chapel, 2500 Hinkle Dr. in Denton, TX.
