Frances Cascio

Frances Cascio, 94, of Port Arthur, passed away at her home Thursday, May 18, 2017, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. A lifelong resident of Port Arthur, Frances was born in 1923 to Joseph and Mary Distefano. She attended local schools, St. Mary’s High School, and graduated in 1941. Primarily a homemaker, she worked at Gulf Oil during WWII, and she held several sales positions at local shops and boutiques, most notable for twenty years at Weiner’s Department Store.

Frances loved taking care of her family, and hobbies were baking, sewing, ceramic painting, flower arranging, and reading.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Fred Cascio; her parents, Joe and Mary Distefano; brothers, Rev. Monsignor John Distefano, Joe Distefano III and Sam Distefano; her sisters, Mary Ann Hughes and Phyllis Smith. She is survived by her brothers, Louis Distefano of Groves; Fred Distefano and wife Kay of Lumberton; sisters, Elizabeth Vardaman of Orange and Lucille Piazza of Port Arthur; her sons, Michael Cascio and wife Louise of Orange; John Cascio and wife Bernadette of Beaumont; Fred Cascio and daughter Mary Cascio of Port Arthur; grandchildren, Rebecca and Lara Cascio, Jessica and her husband Jason Callahan, Elizabeth and Michael Cascio, and Joseph Blakeley.

The family extends its appreciation to Curo Home Health, particularly hospice aide Diane and Nurse Tasha for their invaluable assistance and care. Memorial contributions in honor of Frances Cascio may be made to: St. Catherine Catholic Church; 3840 Woodrow Dr. Port Arthur, TX 77642.

The family will be receiving friends and relatives from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2017, at St. Catherine Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
