David Reed Simon, 64, passed away on September 6, 2017 in Dover, Delaware. He was surrounded by love as he was peacefully brought home to our Lord.

David was born and raised in Bridge City, Texas. The son of John U. Simon and Una J. Simon, both preceded in death. He graduated from Bridge City High School in 1971, and attended Lamar University where he studied drafting.

David was a union welder/pipefitter, working in oil refineries and nuclear/chemical plants through Texas and the east coast.  David was also an experienced carpenter and homebuilder.

For many years, David was able to enjoy bass fishing and bird hunting. A hobby he truly enjoyed with his son Joshua. He loved watching his grandson Brady play soccer and watching Nascar with Davey. David loved showing off his cooking skills, Cajun food, the Dallas Cowboys, and his Crown Royal.

David is now survived by his loving and devoted wife Tammie Simon, his dear son, Joshua Simon and his companion Erica W. Steelman, both of Elkton, MD. David leaves behind his cherished grandson, Brady Simon, of Elkton, MD.

Additionally, David had experienced the love and special bond of his stepchildren Tabitha Mann, Smyrna, DE and David (Davey) White, Milford, DE along with their spouses Robert Mann and Emily White, grandchildren Delaney Mann, Eli Mann, Bailey White and Logan White. He will always be remembered and loved by his wife’s family. Pearl and Jason McNair of Middletown, DE and Chuck and Janice Kolish of St. Petersburg, FL.

David is also survived by his little brother Lonnie J. Simon of Orange, Texas and his children, Michael Simon and Angel Simon both from Texas.  He is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins throughout Texas and Louisiana and he held a special fondness for his Aunt Renola of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

In the years before, David had experienced much love in his life and it should be held in a regard that is no less important than all the love he experienced in his later years.  Because love is transcendent, David is also survived by Sharon Simon, his previous spouse.  He experienced much love and so many fond memories with her children and grandchildren. He continues to be survived by Stepdaughter, Angela Rutherford, her husband Allen and their children Cameron Clouthier, Connor Miller, Sarah Rutherford, and Sydney Rutherford, Stepdaughter, Sherie Clouthier and her children Blaine Butler, Tristan Reed Butler, Marley Butler and Julia Butler.  Stepson Brian Clouthier, his wife Dawn and their children Kevin and Brittany Clouthier.

David was blessed to have a few friends that were held so close in his heart that he continued to call them family. Dale Stanton of Elkton, MD also preceded in death. Hal Porterfield and Charlie Chester, both of Orange, Texas and Glenn Jeter of Bridge City, Texas.

We each can hold fast to the memories and stories that David shared with us and they will keep him close in our hearts to the end of our days.

The word family can be a unique and ever changing metaphor for what matters in this life. It encompasses all that we were and who we have become, and if lucky, it will continue to shape our futures. David loved. Loved many and loved big, leaving behind a past and present that have intertwined to make a more beautiful future for his family.

Gone is the pain… resting in the arms of the Father, eternally at peace. Always remembered, forever loved.

At David’s request, funeral services will be replaced by a Celebration of Life Memorial. The date and time for this Celebration will be announced by the family at a later date.
