Lady Tigers fend off Lady Mustangs in 22-4A play

SILSBEE – The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs traveled to Silsbee in 22-4A district action to face the Lady Tigers and they came up just short 49-46.
This game would not disappoint the crowd in attendance, the Lady Mustangs (16-11, 5-4) would dig a big hole early hampered by foul trouble throughout the contest. Silsbee (18-9, 7-3) would take advantage in the second quarter to a 12-point lead into halftime.
The Lady Mustangs would respond in the second half led by another strong performance by B’JNAE’ Arvie who scored 23 points and snared 17 rebounds to finally cut the Tigers lead to two with a minute to go in the 4th quarter.
The guards Keshaunia Winbush, Bra’khia White, Aniah Henderson and Naudia Watson would play suffocating defense in the second half stealing the ball almost every position down the court. They would force the Tigers into 28 turnovers in the half with each of them having four steals a piece.
Winbush would hit a big 3 pointer with 1:12 left in the 4th to cut it to two but that was as close as the Mustangs would get with Silsbee finishing the game away at the line.
Winbush would finish the game with 9 points, 5 assists and 6 steals with everything coming in the second half. Gabby Tims and Marlandria Hebert would be limited tonight due to fouling out early in the 4th quarter. To round out the scoring was Aniah Henderson 8 points, Marlandria Hebert 5 points and 9 rebounds, Gabby Tims 1 point, 5 assists and 6 rebounds.
The Running Lady Mustangs will host Hamshire-Fannett Tuesday at West Orange Stark with the JV starting at 5:30.
