11-year-old boy dies following Wednesday night crash

PRESS RELEASE — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) can confirm that the child involved in the crash on FM 105 in Orange County has died.  Late last night, the 11-year-old child was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries following a two vehicle crash at the intersection of FM 105 and Lakeview Cutoff.  He was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at the hospital.

On April 24, 2019, at approximately 8:00p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a multiple vehicle crash in Orange County.  The crash occurred at the intersection of FM 105 and Lakeview Cutoff.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2014 KIA passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on FM 105.  A 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on FM 105.  The driver of the KIA attempted to make a left turn onto Lakeview Cutoff and pulled into the path of the Chevrolet pickup truck.  The KIA was struck on the passenger-side door.

The driver of the KIA, 39-year-old Tabitha Butler of Vidor, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital.  Her injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

The passenger of the KIA, Butler’s 11-year-old son, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.  Unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after 9:00p.m. by medical personnel at the hospital.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 41-year-old Ricky Brashier of Vidor, was also transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.  At this time, there are no additional updates on his medical condition.

All northbound and southbound traffic lanes of FM 105 were closed for approximately 45 minutes, but have since reopened.

This remains an active crash investigation and additional details are unavailable at this time.
