John “Jack” Wesley Holcomb, Jr

John “Jack” Wesley Holcomb, Jr. age 91 and longtime resident of Orange, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 in Tyler, Texas. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Old First Orange Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Meyer officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Dorman Funeral Home.
Jack was born on November 16, 1926 in Port Arthur, Texas to Gladys Goddertz Holcomb and John Wesley Holcomb, Sr. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Jack retired after 38 years with Dupont as an electrician. Jack and his wife Joyce had been longtime members of Old First Orange Baptist Church. He served as a deacon, treasurer, RA leader, youth leader, choir member, grounds maintenance and various teaching roles at Old First. He loved his church family. Jack always worked hard at keeping up the land and cattle where his home was in the McLewis community. He had a large garden that supplied many neighbors with fresh produce. He retired early to spend more time with his bride and grandkids and always had funny songs and rhymes his kids and grandkids love until this day.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Elva “Joyce” Holcomb, parents John Wesley and Gladys Holcomb, Sr., brother Raymond Holcomb and sister Betty Jo Crutchfield.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Bell Jackson and her husband Dennis of Tyler, Texas and son Jeff Holcomb and his wife Sarah of Whitehouse, Texas. A brother Robert Holcomb of Woodville, Texas. Five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great grandchildren that will be arriving soon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old First Orange Baptist Church.
