Dorothy Griner Ebanks, 92, of Orange, Texas, passed away on September 12, 2017, in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Born in Jasper, Texas, on September 26, 1924, she was the daughter of Ben Haynes Griner and Rena Mae Perkins. Dorothy was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church in Orange and involved in Women of the Church. She was a graduate of Lamar College in Beaumont and later worked there as a secretary. At Lamar she met her husband, Walter.
Dorothy was a crossword puzzle fanatic and enjoyed spending time gardening and crocheting. She was an excellent seamstress who made clothes and costumes for all of her children. She was also gifted in hand embroidery techniques.
Dorothy took an active interest in and admired the good in others. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Rena; sister, Lorene G. Rodgers; and her husband of 68 years, Walter R. Ebanks.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Dr. Bruce R. Ebanks and wife Annalisa, of Louisville, KY, Claire M. Eike and husband Robert, of Chicago, IL, and Carol E. Ebanks, of Orange; grandchildren, Catherine Ruttan, Ben Ebanks and wife Barbie, Joe Ebanks and wife Pollyana, Elizabeth Brandl and husband Jeff, and Aden Naka and husband Chris; 3 step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Brielle Brandl and Benjamin Ebanks; 7 step-great-grandchildren; her brother, Ben O. Griner, of Hollister, CA; and by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dorothy’s niece Minnie Robinson, of Mauriceville, for the wonderful care and friendship she provided.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at First Presbyterian Church of Orange. The date will be announced on the Claybar Funeral Home website.
