LITTLE CYPRESS— The Bridge City Cardinals took down the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears 11-0 in District 22-4A action at Gibbens Field Friday evening.
With the wind blowing hard, the Cardinal sticks were blowing even harder.
The Cardinals (10-6, 1-1) offense was the story of this game. Justyn Romero and Logan Hamm led the Cards with three home runs between them with Romero blasting two of them, to push the Cardinal offense to a hot start.
Starting pitcher Jacob Goodman threw a complete-game shutout against the Bears to compliment the stellar offense for Bridge City. Goddman allowed just two hits while striking out five and walking two.
The Cardinals started off fast after Caleb Dubois drove in Logan Hamm from second off of long double to left center. Jacob Goodman ended the Bears attempt quickly in the first giving the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals struck again in the top of the third inning with four runs in the inning. Logan Hamm started the hit fest off and Justyn Romero hit a two-run homer on the next at bat to bring Hamm in. Schuyler Thibodaux and Caleb Dubois both scored next off of a Kevin Gordon double and a Gavin Green sac fly to right field. The Cards went up 5-0 in the top of the third.
The top of the Cardinal order cames through in the fourth inning just like the third. Hamm and Romero hit back to back home runs to put on insurance runs. The Cardinals went up 7-0 in the top of the fourth.
The Cardinals top off the game in the sixth inning with four more runs. The Cardinal offense was strong all night.
The Bears (10-8, 0-2) will look to bounce back next Friday at Orangefield while Bridge City welcomes in West Orange-Stark.
