Lady Indians claim Cardinal Relays title

BRIDGE CITY — The Port Neches-Groves Lady Indians track team crushed the competition on their way to claiming the girl’s overall title at the Cardinals Relays on Thursday afternoon.
The PN-G Lady Indians scored 144 points to win the Cardinal Relays, well ahead of second place Little Cypress-Mauriceville with 111 points. Bridge City finished third with 94.5 points and Orangefield finished fourth in the girls events with 86.5 points.
The Lady Indians made a strong showing in the field events on Thursday.
Shaelyn Cobb won the girls triple jump with a leap of 35-feet, while teammate Joley Nail placed fourth with a jump of 32’ 1-3/4”. Cobb added a second place finish in the girls long jump with 16’ 6-1/2” and Nail was fourth with 16’ 2”.
In the girls pole vault, RyleeJo Woods won the event with a height of nine feet, while Addie Hooper finished in sixth place. Hooper added a third place finish in the girls high jump by clearing 5’ 2”.
Morgan Campbell showed her skills at distance running by winning the girls 800 meter race and the 1600 meter race. Campbell won the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.87. Emma Hardin was second in 2:35.11 and Elaine Sanchez was fourth in 2:40.38. Campbell won the 1600 meter race by nearly 20 seconds with a time of 5:33.77, while teammate Cali Poss was third in 5:53.83. Poss finished second in the girls 3200 meter race in a time of 12:55.40.
Jardin Cunningham placed second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.97, just ahead of teammate Aubry Garcia, who finished fourth in 1:05.94.
Abby Ott finished in fifth place in the 300 meter hurdles event in a time of 53.18 seconds, and Joley Nail added a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash in 27.76 seconds.
The Lady Indians relay teams had a successful day at the track as well.
The relay team of Bella Eberhardt, Emma Hardin, Morgan Campbell and Allisson Gutierrez won the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 4:21.01, while the 4 x 100 relay team of Nail, Eberhardt, Ady Dooley and Gutierrez placed third with a time of 52.03 seconds. The same four sprinters claimed fourth place in the 4 x 200 meter race with a time of 1:51.51.
