The Orangefield ISD school board has approved a new salary schedule which includes a 3% raise to the midpoint of district employee salaries.
“The Board of Trustees’ desire is to help our staff each year and this is an opportunity to put some money in their pocket to help out,” said Superintendent Shaun McAlpin. “This will help us take care of our staff and in turn, benefit our students.”
The updated salary schedule came as a result of a lengthy salary workshop and special school board meeting on Monday. The Board of Trustees and the superintendent met for over two hours to work out the details of the new deal.
The 3% midpoint raise ensures that all employees in the same position receive an equal bump in pay across the board.
The board discussed a potential percentage range of anywhere from 1-3% to the midpoint depending on from where the money for payroll would be drawn. After deliberations, they settled on the range’s high mark.
This year’s change is a slight increase from the previous two years, in which employees received a 2.5% increase.
The updated salary schedule also added a new Child Nutrition Secretary position to payroll. The position was approved by the board in a previous meeting and a hire has been made.
Additionally, the rate for long-term substitutes has been changed to $100 per day.
Annualization of pay for support staff such as maintenance and custodial crews was also proposed, a change which will provide those employees a set amount per month while still allowing them to receive supplemental pay for overtime. It will also simplify and expedite the district’s payroll process.
