Have you got the blues? The City of Orange will on Aug. 10 when Blues Fest takes place at the Riverside Pavillion from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
“We’ve been thinking about doing this for six or seven years, and it’s finally time,” event organizer Benetris Edwards said.
According to Edwards, there’s plenty of Zydeco and Country music in Southeast Texas. However, she said many local residents have asked for a community event celebrating the blues.
Thus, Blues Fest was born. The festivities include a car show from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m, with music all day until 11 p.m — including several live performances.
A prayer by Orange Mayor Larry Spears will preface the live music at 12 p.m. Shortly after, local acts Orange Blossoms and the Orange Community Players will perform.
At 2 p.m., local blues artist Shon Branham will take the stage. He’ll be followed by Victoria Chanel at 4 p.m., Summer Wolfe at 6 p.m., then LJ Echols at 8:30 p.m.
A swing-out two-step dance will take place from 9 to 10 p.m.
Food trucks will offer various food and beverage products, while the Orange Lions’ Club will sell beer for attendees 21 and older.
“I just want people to come out and enjoy themselves,” Edwards said. “Come have some fun and support us.”
Event admission is free. No pets, coolers or outside beverages are allowed.
Blues Fest is sponsored by the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce.
