St. Mary Catholic School was honored with a proclamation deeming April 26, 2025 as St. Mary Catholic School Day for its many years of dedication to faith, service and community, according to information from the city of Orange.

“St. Mary Catholic School officially opened in October 1924 and was staffed by Dominican sisters. The first graduating high school class received diplomas in May 1949, and in 1958, a new high school was constructed on Bob Hall Road where the present facility is located. In 1934, St. Mary Catholic School hosted its inaugural Spring Festival, and on Saturday, April 26, 2025 will host its 89th Annual Spring Festival, which will be its last. The festival will begin at 9 a.m, and all are invited to enjoy a day of games, food, music, an auction, tours, and more,” according to the city.

St. Mary school is closing its doors after 100 years of history in the Orange area. The school is set to close at the end of this academic year.  The closure stems from a lack of enrollment in the past year with the School announcing that less than 30 students are projected to enroll for the 2025-2026 school year and run a projected operational deficit of over $600,000.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I write to share this news of our school’s closure at the end of this academic year,” said Reverend David L. Toups, Bishop of the Diocese of Beaumont, said in a previous story. “The parents of St. Mary Catholic School have placed their trust in our school, and to you, I am most especially grateful, and with you, I grieve over this news. I remain proud of the 100-year history of St. Mary and rejoice in each student who had the privilege to study here.”
