ORANGE COUNTY — Officials have released the name of a man who died following a house fire Friday night.

The man is identified as Chad David Worthington, 56.

The call of the structure fire came in at approximately 11:14 p.m. Friday.

Fire crews arrived to find a double wide manufactured home with smoke showing. Fire crews made a push to extinguish the fire and conduct a primary search for any fire victims. One victim was found and was quickly removed and CPR started. Unfortunately, the victim did not survive the fire. One firefighter

did receive minor burns during the search for the victim and was transported to a local hospital for assessment and later released. He is expected to return to duty soon, according to information from OCESD No. 1.

Fire Chief Robert L. Smith said the cause of the fire is under investigation but it appears accidental and possibly an electrical malfunction.

Witnesses told officials with the Orange County Emergency Services District No. 1 that the man had exited the structure in the 6000 block of Pipeline Road  to retrieve a fire extinguisher. Smith said they are encouraging residents to stay out once they are out of a burning building.

The man’s cause of death has not been released.

A chaplain was contacted and was available for those in need, Smith said.
