The Orange Lions Club is back with its 84th annual Charity Carnival at the Orange Lions City Park. The carnival will take place over two weekends, April 2-5 and April 9-12.

The carnival contains a variety of activities and rides, including Ferris wheels, merry go rounds and other classic carnival games.

“This is our 84th year and everybody that comes through there has cut their teeth on that carnival,” said Butch Campbell, member of the Lions Club. “All the volunteers and all the people that are working it and all the visitors, this is not a new routine for them. They turn out in numbers and they truly support what we do and how we do it.”

The carnival is a collaboration between various Lions Club members from Orange County, including Bridge City, Orange Noon and Little Cypress Lions clubs. The carnival began years ago after a family in Orange had a child that needed eye surgery that the family could not afford. Local citizens gathered to form a Lions Club and held a small carnival to raise funds and the tradition has continued ever since.

Money raised from the carnival will go towards providing eyeglasses for individuals and supporting schools in and around the Orange County area. All rides are owned and operated by the Lions Club.

The annual event has become more than just a carnival—it’s a longstanding tradition that continues to unite families across generations in the Orange community.

“I think its the fact that you get to see families come in and you get to hear stories of ‘my grandma was raised with this carnival and then I was raised with this carnival and now im bringing my kids out’ and every year you just see the joy of the families in Orange” said Club Secretary Jared Wilson.” They’re so appreciative of the fact that we give them affordable entertainment that is in their hometown that goes back ultimately to support the home town.”
