The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears basketball season came to an end on Monday night at Waller High School at the hands of the China Spring Lady Cougars.
China Spring defeated the Lady Bears 43-34 in the Class 4A Division 1 Regional semi-finals. China Spring advances to the Regional finals to face No. 2 state-ranked Waco La Vega, which defeated Hardin-Jefferson 61-29 on Monday night in the other regional semi-final matchup.
LC-M (29-9) jumped out to an early 10-6 lead after the first quarter as Eden Frenzel found success from three-point range with six points in the quarter. Unfortunately, the LC-M offense was off the mark in the second and had difficulty finding the hoop as the China Spring defense stiffened and held the Lady Bears to just three points in the quarter. The Lady Cougars led at half 15-13.
China Spring (20-16) opened the game up in the third quarter and extended its lead to 30-22 by the end of the third quarter on the way to a 43-34 win. Eden Frenzel scored 13 points in the game for the Lady Bears, while Keylie Washburn finished with six points on the night.
The Bridge City Lady Cardinals took care of business on Tuesday night and are advancing to Regional finals.
The No. 10 state-ranked Lady Cardinals traveled to Waller High School on Tuesday night and defeated the No. 20 state-ranked Jarrell Lady Cougars, 58-43, in the Class 4A Division 2 regional semifinals. The Bridge City Lady Cardinals slogan this season has been “all gas, no brakes,” and that is exactly how the team played jumping out to a early 7-0 lead on the way to a 16-11 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Cards, led by Mia Sterling’s 12 points for the game, extended the lead to 29-18 at halftime and never looked back on the way to the win.
The No. 10 state-ranked Lady Cardinals (34-3) will now play No. 23 state-ranked Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns (28-9) in the regional finals. The game will take place at 7 p.m., Friday, at Nederland High School.
