A man carrying a shotgun suffered a gunshot wound to the leg after allegedly failing to comply with orders to lower the weapon.

The incident occurred at about 9:50 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of Hydrangea Avenue.

Orange Police Major Wade Robinson said officers were patrolling the area and encountered the person with a rifle. The man reportedly pointed the firearm at officers and officers ordered him to put the firearm down but he didn’t.

Officers fired and stuck the man in the leg. His injury was non-life threatening Monday night.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident, which is standard protocol in an officer involved shooting.

Three weeks ago police arrested a 13-year-old male in the fatal shooting of a Beaumont man also in the 400 block of Hydrangea Avenue.
