The NAACP Orange Branch hosted its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day March, Monday, Jan. 20. The March was relocated to take place around Mt.Olive Life Center in Orange.

“Dr. King’s legacy is a legacy for all of us,” Maquettia Ledet, vice president of the Orange Chapter of the NAACP said.

The participants braved the cold as they marched blocks around the church in celebration of the late Martin Luther King Jr. and the legacy he left behind.

“It’s not just a legacy for black people or people of color,” Ledet said. “It is a vision that we all share and is important for us to all participate in. Reason one, it gives us the opportunity to remember that we have shared visions, shared goals, shared fears, shared concerns. Reason two, it gives us the opportunity to come together and be reminded of those common interests that we have. Reason three, it gives us the opportunity to renew our commitment to one another and to our communities. We’re focusing on what we as individuals can do to demonstrate that we’re committed to one another, committed to our neighbors, committed to our community.”
