BRIDGE CITY — A Bridge City man was injured and his boat damaged when he struck a mooring line in Cow Bayou Thursday morning.

Texas Parks & Wildlife Game Warden Captain Ryan L. Hall said the crash occurred at approximately 6:15 a.m. about one mile southeast of Roundbunch Bridge in Orange County.

Local game wardens responded to investigate the crash after daylight and interviewed those involved, according to a news release from TPWD.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Logan Mitchell of Bridge City was traveling southeast along Cow Bayou shortly before daylight in his 22’ center console Majek bay boat on his way to go fishing. He observed the lights of a barge and tugboat positioned near the center of the Bayou and proceeded to pass it to the right, striking the mooring line stretched from the barge to the shore.

Mitchell’s vessel sustained major damage to the center console.  He suffered severe lacerations to the head and was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in stable condition.  The nature of the crash is still under investigation by TPWD and the US Coast Guard due to the involvement of the commercial vessel.
