Groundbreaking kicks off Orangefield ISD bond construction

ORANGEFIELD — History was made this week with the ceremonial groundbreaking to kick off Orangefield Independent School District’s bond construction project.
Orangefield ISD trustees and administration gathered at the high school gym where a makeshift area was used for the dirt turning. The event was to be held at the elementary school campus but as moved due to the weather.
Laura Clark, president of board of trustees, said the groundbreaking ceremony was a momentous occasion for the district as begin work on the 2023 voter approved bond to make additions to the elementary, junior high and high school.
The $42.9 million bond was the first bond passed in the district in about 20 years.
The bond program addresses safety and security upgrades, renovations and additions, and upgrades to aging facilities. The focus of the bond is centered around classroom additions to provide instructional space for students and to accommodate enrollment growth in the district.
“We are very excited about what the future holds for our district in these new improvements,” Clark said.
Clark also expressed gratitude for the community and the bond steering committee that came together, toured the campuses and identified deficiencies.
Facility improvements include a new cafeteria at Orangefield Elementary School with a stage for events and presentations, according to information from the district.
The elementary campus renovation includes classroom additions to alleviate overcrowding and to accommodate future student enrollment growth.
Renovations at Orangefield Junior High School include classroom additions.
Orangefield High School additions include a new cafeteria, library and classrooms. In addition, the school would see expansion of its CTE spaces.
