Early voting in the General Election begins Monday and runs through Nov. 1 with Election Day on Nov. 5.

Besides the federal and state races, there are also some close to home, including Orange County Emergency Services District No. 1 Board of Commissioners, Orange County Emergency Services District No. 3 Board of Commissioners, Vidor Independent School District and Orangefield Independent School District.

  • Orange ESD No. 1 has three individuals running for two seats. They include incumbent Wyatt Boyett, Ronnie Herrera and Rose Luce.

The ESD services Vidor, Rose City, Pine Forest and surrounding areas.

  • Orange County ESD No. 3 has four individuals vying for two commissioners’ seats. They include Scott McDonald, Jeremy Kent Nichols, and incumbents Cathy Drake and Jeff Braus. The seats are at-large.

The ESD No. 3 covers the Little Cypress area, north of the city of Orange, according to information from the organization.

  • Vidor ISD has a $98.4 million bond proposition on the ballot. The primary drive for the bond is that it consolidates district facilities, shuttering Vidor Junior High and moving those students to the newly built Vidor Middle School.

If the bond were to pass, the district’s three elementary schools would educate students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. The middle school campus would house grades 6-8.

To accommodate changes in the grade levels of each campus, new classrooms will be built at each school. Pine Forest Elementary would gain 16 classrooms. Vidor Elementary would see 32 classrooms built along with a connection canopy to the music room and gym. Oak Forest Elementary would get eight new classrooms.

The bond proposition also includes improvements at Vidor Middle School; 16 new classrooms and a new field house.

The most costly portion is at the high school including the construction of a two-story addition with 38 new classrooms, three science labs and a new cosmetology lab. There would also be renovations to the practice gym, choir room and auditorium.

Orangefield ISD has four trustee seats up for election with only one of those races being contested.

The Place III seat has three candidates; Richard Lasseigne Jr., Dustin Loga and Jude Graffagnino.
