A Vidor man has been identified as a worker who died in an industrial incident Thursday.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at approximately 8:30 a.m. to the Beaumont Clean Ammonia site in the 6300 block of Twin City Highway in reference to an injured worker who had fallen while working inside a tank, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

First responders transported the worker to a local hospital due to his injuries.  Soon thereafter, he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as 36-year-old Cameron Powell of Vidor. Next of kin has been notified.  Judge Justin Chesson has ordered an autopsy.

A media release from Woodside Energy noted the death of the worker at the site. The Beaumont Clean Ammonia site is owned by Woodside Energy and construction is managed by OCI.

The incident occurred during work activity being carried out at the site. All other people at the site are safe and accounted for.

Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill said, “This is a very sad day, and I offer my deepest sympathy to our colleague’s family, friends and workmates. “The safety of our workforce is always our top priority, and we are providing full support to OCI and its contracting company. “We are taking steps to understand the circumstances around this tragic event and are working closely with relevant authorities and regulators, OCI and the contractor company.

A full investigation will be initiated and a stand down of all work is currently in place.” Senior Woodside management is heading to the Beaumont Clean Ammonia site and we will be working to provide support to the employees in Beaumont.
