ORANGEFIELD — An Orange County Sheriff’s deputy was injured and a suspect shot and killed in Orangefield Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. in Orangefield, according to information from the Sheriff’s Office.

The officer was transferred to a hospital. The condition of the officer has not been released.

A suspect is dead but no information on the deceased has been released.

The incident led Orangefield schools to go on a brief lockdown due to a potential threat.

The lockdown was announced at 8:41 a.m. via social media and lifted at approximately 8:55 a.m. Wednesday due to law enforcement being involved in an isolated incident near the Orangefield ISD.

Orange County Sheriff Jimmy Lane Mooney could not provide comment on the incident at this time.
