CALCASIEU PARISH, La. — Upgraded charges and bond have been added to a woman authorities believe is responsible for the death of one of her children and abandonment of another.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Office detectives on Thursday upgraded charges on Aaliyah N. Jack, 25, of Lake Charles.
Jack, who remains in custody in Mississippi, is now charged with two counts of failure to report a missing child; cruelty to a juvenile; and second degree murder.
Judge Tony Fazzio set her total bond at $9.1 million
“Although we have upgraded charges on Jack, our detectives still have a lot of work to do,” Sheriff Stitch Guillory said. “The investigation will continue while we wait for the autopsy results of the victim. We are asking anyone who may have any information related to this case to call CPSO lead Detective Willie Fontenot at 491-3605.”
On Monday at approximately 3 p.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the Vinton Welcome Center in reference to a body located in the water.
Further investigation revealed the body was that of was a 4-year-old boy, who was last seen with his mother, Aaliyah N. Jack, 25, Lake Charles, and his 1-year-old sibling.
After further investigation, a warrant was issued for Jack’s arrest charging her with failure to report a missing child. She was located in Mississippi by the Meridian Police Department, without the 1 year old.
CPSO continued the search for the child, and on Tuesday at approximately 9 a.m. CPSO deputies were dispatched to I-10 eastbound near miler marker 10 in reference to a passerby observing a baby in a ditch. When deputies arrived, they were able to positively identify the child as the missing 1 year old.
Guillory — just nine days into his tenure as Calcasieu Parish sheriff — called the child “our miracle baby.” “He was still alive and it’s unbelievable,” Guillory said while choking back tears. “This kid spent two days out in the weather on the side of the highway. Thank God that trucker seen him.”
