3 killed after violent multi-vehicle crash, police say

LAKE CHARLES, La. — At approximately 4:26 p.m. Wednesday, officers with Lake Charles Police Department were dispatched to Interstate 210 at Mile Marker 4, in reference to a multi-vehicle motor vehicle crash.
Upon officer’s arrival, it was learned a red 2020 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by James Labove, 46, of Sulphur, La., was traveling westbound on Interstate 210 near mile marker 4.
The Malibu struck the rear of a white 2022 Volkswagen Taos, driven by Race Hindman, 34, from Lake Charles, La., who was also westbound on Interstate 210.
After the Chevrolet Malibu struck the white Taos, it continued through the center median and impacted a black 2023 Volkswagen Taos that was eastbound on Interstate 210.
The 2023 Volkswagen Taos was being driven by Derrick Dupre, 39, of Sulphur.
Lisa Burnworth, 38, of Sulphur, was a passenger in the 2023 Volkswagen Taos.
James Labove succumbed to his injuries at the scene, lead investigator is Cpl. Ted Oliver said.
Derrick Dupre and Lisa Burnworth both succumbed to their injuries, as a result of the crash, at an area hospital.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
