Thelma Whitehead Lusignan, 95, of Bridge City, Texas, passed away on December. 15, 2023 at the home she lived in for 68 years.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.
Officiating will be Father Ernie Carpio of St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City.
Burial will follow at hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Orange.
Visitation will begin prior to the service at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.
She was born on September 22, 1928, to U.L. Whitehead Sr. and Alva Taylor Whitehead in Sweetwater, Texas.
She had three sisters and one brother.
Thelma married Delmar Joseph “Red” Lusignan in Pt. Arthur on June 7, 1947.
They moved to Bridge City in 1955 and raised three children.
She earned her cosmetology license and ran her own beauty shop for many years.
As a family we enjoyed camping, painting ceramics, attending craft shows and making all types of crafts.
As empty nesters, Thelma and Delmar sold handmade fantasy flowers at the Beaumont State Fair for several years.
Thelma was an active member of Silver Sneakers at the Pt. Arthur YMCA for over 25 years and a member of St. Henry Catholic Church.
She was known as the “Cookie Lady” because of her generosity in giving away home-made cookies to her dentist, mechanic, lawn maintenance team, as well as neighbors and friends.
She is survived by her three children Sandra Ann Davis and husband Jay, Rhonda Mae Strohm and husband Gaylord, and Darrell Edward “Critter” Lusignan and wife Vickie.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Delmar of 47 years; three sisters, Lena Smith, Margaret Caldwell and Faye Alford; and brother Urvin Loy “Bo” Whitehead Jr.
