The Quest for Schmeep!

The Orange Community Players Young People’s Theatre Workshop are performing the production, “The Quest for Schmeep!” In this production, heroes race against villains to be the first to find the Schmeep. The production will be performed at 7:37 p.m. Thursday, July 12, Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14 and at 2:37 p.m. Sunday, July 15 at Little Cypress Mauriceville High School Performing Arts Center located at 7327 Highway 87 N in Orange. The World War I Homefront: Orange Goes Over the Top

The W.H. Stark House has a new exhibit that shares stories about how the Stark family and the people of Orange supported the efforts of the war. Learn about the active role the family took part in boosting the troops morale, helping the Red Cross and sending supplies to our troops abroad. The W.H. Stark House is located on 610 W. July 4th BBQ/Membership Drive

Orange Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2775 & Auxiliary, located on Highway 87 North, will host their Annual BBQ/Membership Drive for members, their immediate family and guests.  Serving will begin around noon.  There will be Membership Tables set up to collect dues and assist with signing up new members.  This is the beginning of our Fiscal Year and this is the perfect time to pay dues and get them out of the way before the holidays begin.  Post dues are $32 and Auxiliary dues are $20.

We are inviting any veteran who thinks he or she may be eligible to join the VFW or Auxiliary to bring proof of eligibility such as DD214 or other proof of overseas duty, such as Hostile Fire or Imiminent Danger Pay. To join the post is $33, then annual dues are $32 a year.

The auxiliary has new guidelinies and now can join up male relatives of an eligible veteran who does not have to be a member of the VFW.  Membership in the auxiliary is limited to husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and step children of a veteran eligible for the VFW.  If the veteran is a post member, no other proof is necessary to join the auxiliary.  Entrance fee for the Auxiliary is $25 then $20 a year after the first year.  The auxiliary is a ‘supporting force’ to the VFW and is a working group of members.

First Saturday Sale

Thrift and Gift will hold its monthly First Saturday Sale on July 7, 2018. Donations have been wonderful! Come fill a bag of selected fabrics for $1, purses are half-priced, shoes $1, clothes for babies and children 50-cents, long and short pants for women and men with jeans included are $1. We are located off Strickland Drive between the Salvation Army and Sabine Credit Union at 350 37^th Street in Orange. Texas Master Naturalists training

The Sabine Neches Chapter will be conducting a training session this fall for persons interested in becoming Texas Master Naturalists.  The program is open to all persons interested in learning and playing an active part in conservation. Volunteers will receive a minimum of 40 hours of basic training from educators and specialists from places such as universities, natural resource agencies, nature centers and museums. Training topics include interpretation and management of natural resources, ecological concepts, eco-regions in Texas and natural systems management.  Interested persons can visit https://txmn.org/sabine for signup information.

 

Memberships available

Memberships in AAUW are available for those with 2-year or 4-year degrees for $65 per year.  Friend memberships for those without a degree are offered for $25 per year.  AAUW is proud of its achievements, including the scholarships, a scholarship dinner with Silent Auction, books contributed to North Early Learning Center to a local AAUW-created program called Book of Their Own, another local AAUW-created program called Library Family of the Year in connection with the Orange Public Library, a monthly book club called Book-Ins, a dining club called Galloping Gourmet, a Christmas covered-dish party, and annual participation in Art in the Park. Years ago, AAUW ran a pre-school for young children and composed several cookbooks for fundraisers, as well as garage sales.  AAUW has been part of the Orange community for 69 years, forming in Orange in 1949.

Youth Summer Programs Offered by AgriLife Extension

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Orange County will be offering several programs for youth this summer.  The registration for the programs will be online at orange.agrilife.org and you will select the tab for the program interested in. If you do not have computer access, please call the AgriLife office the day registration opens. Classes fill up quickly so do not wait to register.

Registration for July classes will open online June 1^st. July will start with Good Table Manners, “Please” and “Thank you” along with Etiquette, this will be a three day class held July 16^th-18^th, 9 am to 1 pm, Cost is $10 per child with lunch provided. Open to ages 8-18.

Youth Canning Class will be held July 19^th, 9 am to 2 pm for ages 8-14. Cost will be $25 per child. They will be canning strawberry jam and making homemade bread.

Next class will be Sewing 101 for beginners only, July 23^rd-25^th, 9 am to 2 pm, cost is $20 per person, kids will bring their own lunch and drink.

The last program for the summer will be Clover Kids Camp for ages 5-8, July 31^st-August 2^nd, 1 pm to 4 pm cost will be $25 per person. The 2^nd annual Disc Golf Competition, Battle on the Border, will tee off at 9 a.m. at The Nazz Disc Golf Course, located at 3810 Martin Luther King Jr Drive in Orange. Check in is from 7 a.m. – 8:15 a.m. Open Division is $50, Advanced Divisions $40, Intermediate Divisions $30 and Rec, Jrs., and Novice is $25.

The 4^th of July Concert and Fireworks hosted by the Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau will be held at the Riverfront Pavillon Wednesday, July 4.
