The Center of History

John 1:3 (NLT) 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.

Paul Billheimer wrote, “The center of history is not its great empires like Egypt, Babylon, Greece, or Rome, nor their modern counterparts such as Russia, China, or the United States…(Neither) are men like the Pharaohs, Nebuchadnezzar, Alexander the Great, Caesar, Charlemagne, and Napoléon.”

It is important to add…neither are you or me! The universe did not start with us nor does it revolve around us. We did not set this world in motion and we will not bring it to an end. We have a reason and purpose for being…but we did not create ourselves.

(Psalm 100:3) Jesus is the center of history.

Billheimer suggests that history is really… “HIS – STORY”. We are a part of “HIS STORY”. We are in that “everything created” John refers to in today’s verse.

So why are we here? Why do we exist? We exist because He wanted us. We exist to be in forever relationship with Him. Ours is a living, loving, thinking, feeling, creating, God who desires relationship. And He desires relationship with us. He loves us – every single one of us.

Jesus said it Himself in John 15:9 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.”

The Center of Creation…loves His creation supremely and we were created to remain in that love…forever.
