Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD is justifiably proud of and celebrates student successes, in both individual and team arenas, but the District is also very proud and grateful for the excellent educators who motivate, encourage, and inspire those students.

One recent example of educational excellence is 23 year LCM teacher, Jennie Knapp. Ms. Knapp, a science teacher at Little Cypress Junior High, is an educator who has high expectations for her students and herself. Her creative approach to teaching has recently earned her the title of Soil & Water Conservation Districts of Texas (SWCD T) Conservation Teacher of the Year.

Earlier this year she was notified that she had been selected as the local winner, then as the SWCDT Region 4 Teacher of the Year, and more recently she learned that she was named Teacher of the Year for the State of Texas. Ms. Knapp will attend a Soil & Water Conservation Districts of Texas conference in Waco in early October to receive the State Award.

This competition is open to teachers of all grade levels. Nominees are judged on their conservation teaching activities, their approach to teaching conservation through his or her subject matter, originality, the importance of conservation education in the teacher’s program, how broad based the program is, and examples of student initiatives and involvement.
