Eagles Lodge to collect food items for local pantries this Saturday
A local organization known for its efforts to help the community is at it once again.
Members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Sabine Aerie 2523 of Orange will be collecting food items from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Eagles Lodge, which is located at 803 N. 28th St. in Pinehurst. This is a nationwide effort and the local aerie is participating in an effort to help local food pantries, such as the ones at the Salvation Army and Orange Christian Services, keep their shelves stocked.
“All of the food pantries around town are short of funds and food right now, so this is a really good thing to do,” said Peggy Riley of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Orange. “This is the first time that I can recall we have tried to help a local food pantry.”
The Fraternal Order of Eagles motto is “People Helping People,” but this Saturday it will be “People Helping Pantries” as organizations across the country help battle hunger in their local communities.
“We like helping people, and we are getting to help the food pantries this time,” Riley added. “We try to be very involved in the community, and we would like people to learn more about us.”
A drive-through area will be available for local residents who wish to drop-off a donation on Saturday. However, for those who are able, the day will be filled with special activities to help generate interest in the organization.
Live music and games will be available, as will raffles and 50/50 split-the-pot drawings to benefit the food pantries. Also, the organization will be selling food to keep guests entertained and contribute to the food pantries as links on a bun and chips will be available for purchase.
