John Gordon Hawkins, Jr

Visitation for John Gordon Hawkins, Jr., 69, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel.  A Memorial Celebration will be held in Orange at a later date. Mr. Hawkins was born October 20, 1947 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Earl Marie (Rawls) and John Gordon Hawkins, Sr., and died Saturday, October 14, 2017 at his weekend home in Jasper. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time at his weekend home. Mr. Hawkins graduated from West Orange High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision from McNeese State University, and played basketball at both colleges. Prior to going into the insurance and benefits business, Mr. Hawkins coached high school and junior college football and basketball, and coached football and golf at Stephen F. Austin State University. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Hawkins of Lufkin; son, Bryan Hawkins of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Fred Dreyer of Sun City; niece, Leslie Dreyer; nephews, Scott Dreyer and wife Alexia, Shawn Slocum and wife Michelle, and John Slocum and wife Teresa; father-in-law, James R. Roach; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janet and Johnny Lee; and numerous close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Verna Roach.
