Verna Stephenson Dougharty

Verna Stephenson Dougharty, 79, of Orange, Texas, passed away on May 15, 2018, in Beaumont, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 18, 2018, at Little Cypress Baptist Church in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend David Turner. Burial will follow the service at Dougharty Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Orange, Texas, on June 16, 1938, she was the daughter of John Ezra Stephenson and Martha Roberta (Peet) Stephenson. Verna was a longtime member of Little Cypress Baptist Church where she also enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School for many years. She graduated from Stark High School in 1956 and kept in touch with her friends throughout the years. Verna was a florist for a brief time, enjoyed flower arranging, and was even involved in the Garden Club. She loved to cook for everyone and always had a welcoming smile on her face. Verna loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Stephenson; mother, Martha Stephenson Couthran, and step-father, Norman Couthran; her loving husband of 60 years, Marshall Wayne Dougharty, Sr.; brothers, Johnny Stephenson, B.K. Stephenson, Chester Stephenson, Ronnie Couthran, Donnie Couthran, Bill Couthran, and Guy Couthran; and her sister, Joanne Dean.

Verna is survived by her children, Rebecca Dougharty, of Fort Worth, Marshall W. Dougharty, Jr. and wife Kenita, of Orange, Debra Deslatte and husband David, of Port Neches, and Priscilla Parsons and husband Kenneth, of Orange; grandchildren, Heath Moody and wife Jill, Lara Newman and husband Josh, Sam Dougharty and wife Lacey, Justin Dougharty and wife DeLana, Laci Wojnarowski and husband Joseph, Hannah Deslatte, Sarah Deslatte, Aaron Parsons, and Ethan Parsons; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Martha Vandenberg, of Orange; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Heath Moody, Sam Dougharty, Justin Dougharty, Aaron Parsons, Ethan Parsons, and Josh Newman. Honorary pallbearer is Luke Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Little Cypress Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
