Matilda Wright, 93, of Orange, Texas, passed away on August 11, 2015.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am, Friday, August 14, 2015, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Orange. Officiating will be Father Sinclair Oubre. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Orange.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm-8:00pm, with a Rosary at 8:00pm, Thursday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in New Iberia, Louisiana, on March 25, 1922, she was the daughter of Damon Broussard and Philomena Broussard. Matilda was a member of St. Theresa Altar Society, Catholic Daughter’s Association, and the VFW. She was a retired beautician who loved to fish, cook, garden, and sew. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed dancing. She was a devout Catholic who loved her savior, and most importantly, loved her family deeply. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Wright, Jr.; son, Ronald “Ronnie” Damon Bland; her parents; and her brothers and sisters.
Matilda is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Berry and husband Kenneth, of Deweyville; “adopted son”, Lawrence McCain and wife Abbie, of Westlake, Louisiana; daughter-in-law, Polly Bland, of Sulphur, Louisiana; 11 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; identical twin sister, Martha Thomas and husband Archie, of Sulphur, Louisiana; brother, Claude Broussard and wife Kay, of Lumberton, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and other family.
Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Golemon, Damon Bland, Chris Bland, Danny Bland, Kevin Golemon, and Josh Spell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any charity of your choice.
